What is the Sync Client?

The Sync Client is software that allows you to synchronise your data on your local computer with luckycloud. luckycloud uses the open source software Seafile for this purpose. First of all, the sync client must be downloaded and set up. After successful set-up, you can select folders and files that are to be automatically synchronised with luckycloud from now on. Changes are then automatically transferred to all synchronised devices.

The sync client can be installed on Windows, Mac or Linux devices.

How do I install the Sync Client?

First download the appropriate software for your operating system. You can find this in the customer dashboard under "Download Manager ". 2.

How do I add my account to Sync Client?

After successful Sync Client installation, you can select where you want to place the cloud folder on your PC under "Select ". In all synchronised libraries from the cloud will be stored locally in this folder. Possible error sources during account setup

If an error message occurs, check the following possible sources of error:

How do I synchronise my local data with luckycloud?

Once you have successfully installed the sync client on your computer or laptop and added your luckycloud account, there are three options on how to sync your folders with luckycloud.

a) Upload folders and set up local synchronisation.

With the sync client, you can easily bring existing folder structures into the cloud - without changing your current folder organisation. change. 1. To upload a new folder to luckycloud, drag and drop the folder into the lower field of the client. This creates a new library in the luckycloud. Alternatively, you can click on the field and select the corresponding folder. (Do not double click!) A window with further options will open. 3. If you want to activate end-to-end encryption in this library, tick "encrypted" and enter a password for this folder. for this folder. 4.

The synchronisation process may take some time depending on the speed of your internet connection and the size of the data.

To share encrypted libraries, the user needs a luckycloud account and the corresponding password to decrypt the data. decrypt the data.

Note: Creation of external share links and upload links for encrypted libraries is not possible! Please also note that passwords of encrypted libraries cannot be reset by us in case of loss. If you forget the password to a library it is not possible to recover it. luckycloud follows a zero-knowledge cloud principle and therefore we do not store library passwords on our servers. Likewise, an encrypted library cannot be subsequently freed from password protection. In this case, it is necessary to create a new unencrypted library and upload the data again.

b) Download and synchronise existing library from luckycloud to PC/laptop

c) Synchronising data from luckycloud with local folders

If you already have a folder on your PC/laptop that completely or only partially matches a library from the luckycloud, you can synchronise your data without having to upload the same data again. 1.

  1. install the sync client on your device and add your account if you have not already done so. The client will now list all the libraries you already have in your luckycloud account. 2. Right-click on the relevant library and select "Download and synchronise". 3. Then click on "Synchronise with existing folder". 4. Under "select", click on the corresponding folder on your PC/laptop that is to be synchronised with the luckycloud library.

Note: A frequent source of error is that users click into the corresponding folder (double-click). Please make sure that the corresponding folder is only selected. Otherwise, the entire library will be downloaded into a subfolder. 5.

If the library is encrypted, you must also enter the corresponding password. With "OK" you start the synchronisation process and the client synchronises your local data with the cloud.

In the case of files with the same name but different contents, so-called conflict files are created. Here you can find out how such conflict files arise and how they can be resolved.

Exclude files/folders from synchronisation

You can exclude certain folders or files from synchronisation in Sync Client. This is how you proceed:

  1. go to the respective library where the file or folder is located which should not be synchronised. Create a txt file and name the file "seafile-ignore.txt". 3. Open the seafile-ignore.txt file and write the folder name or file name in it and put a "/" at the end, e.g. "Cache/". 4. Save the file in the first level of the respective library (not in a subfolder). 5.
  2. open the Seafile Sync Client.
  3. a) If you have already set up a synchronisation, right-click on the respective library and select "resynchronise".
  4. b) Set up synchronisation.

Stop Sync Client

The sync client runs in the background of your computer. To stop the sync client on Windows. 1:

  1. open the programmes running in the background. To do this, click on the arrow at the bottom right of your task bar: . A small window will open in the bottom right-hand corner. The yellow-orange icon is the Seafile client. Right-click on the icon. 3.
  2. then select "Exit".

The background programmes on the Mac are displayed at the top right. Otherwise, the process looks the same on macOS.
